Description
A crispy, tangy, and spicy budget-friendly appetizer or main course made in the air fryer. This easy recipe uses pantry staples to recreate restaurant-quality Bang Bang Shrimp in just 20 minutes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1.5 lbs large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Cooking spray (olive oil or neutral oil)
- 1/2 cup full-fat mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup Sriracha sauce
- 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce
- 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
- 2–3 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
Instructions
- Thaw frozen shrimp if necessary, then pat them very dry with paper towels. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, Sriracha, sweet chili sauce, lime juice, and minced garlic. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Set aside.
- In a shallow bowl, mix flour, paprika, salt, and pepper. Toss the dry shrimp in the flour mixture to coat lightly, shaking off excess.
- Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3 minutes. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with oil.
- Arrange shrimp in a single layer in the basket, ensuring they do not overlap. Spray the tops of the shrimp generously with oil.
- Air fry for 4 minutes, then flip the shrimp. Spray the other side with oil and cook for another 4-6 minutes until opaque, pink, and crispy.
- Transfer hot shrimp to a large bowl and pour the Bang Bang sauce over them. Toss gently to coat without breaking the crust.
- Serve immediately, topped with sliced green onions.
Notes
Ensure shrimp are completely dry before dredging to prevent sogginess. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches if necessary. The sauce can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days. For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free flour or cornstarch. For a dairy-free version, use vegan mayo.
