Description
Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, these air fryer apple fritters are a quick, healthier alternative to deep-fried dough, made with simple pantry staples and real apple chunks.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- ¾ cup milk (whole, 2%, or almond)
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 medium Granny Smith apple, peeled and diced into ¼-inch cubes
- ½ cup granulated sugar (for coating)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for coating)
- Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3-5 minutes. Line the basket with parchment paper or lightly spray with non-stick cooking spray.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and 2 tablespoons sugar.
- In a separate large bowl, whisk the milk, oil (or melted butter), and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.
- Fold in the diced apples gently.
- Scoop batter into the air fryer basket, leaving space between each fritter (fit 4-6 per batch).
- Cook for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- While fritters cook, mix the ½ cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon in a shallow bowl.
- As soon as fritters are done, toss them in the cinnamon sugar mixture while still hot to coat evenly.
- Serve immediately while warm.
Notes
Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure proper air circulation. Flip fritters halfway through cooking for even browning. Use cold batter ingredients to help the fritters hold their shape. Coat fritters immediately while hot so the sugar sticks. If using an oven, bake at 375°F for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway.
