  • Author: Natalia
  • Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

A reliable, gluten-free breakfast casserole that uses frozen hash browns and sausage for a stress-free morning meal. It can be assembled the night before and baked in the oven, making it perfect for busy parents and brunch guests.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 30 ounces frozen shredded hash browns
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage (pork or turkey, gluten-free)
  • 8 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Butter or cooking spray for greasing dish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Thaw hash browns slightly to remove excess moisture.
  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook sausage until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain excess grease if necessary.
  4. Add diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet; cook for 2-3 minutes until soft.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, salt, pepper, and thyme.
  6. Combine thawed hash browns, cooked sausage mixture, and half of the cheddar cheese with the egg mixture.
  7. Pour mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  8. Top with remaining cheese and cover tightly with aluminum foil.
  9. Bake covered for 25 minutes, then remove foil and bake for another 20-25 minutes until golden brown and set.
  10. Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Thaw hash browns to prevent a watery casserole. Ensure sausage is certified gluten-free if needed. Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes after baking to allow eggs to set for clean slices. Can be assembled the night before and refrigerated.
