Description
A simple, refreshing classic mojito made with fresh mint and lime, perfect for busy weeknights or impressing guests with minimal effort.
Ingredients
Scale
- 10–12 fresh mint leaves
- 1 medium lime, juiced plus wedges for garnish
- 2 teaspoons white granulated sugar (or 1 tablespoon simple syrup)
- 2 ounces (60 ml) white rum
- 4–6 ounces (120–180 ml) soda water (club soda), chilled
- Crushed ice
- Optional garnish: extra mint sprig and lime wheel
Instructions
- Wash mint leaves gently and pat dry. Cut lime in half and juice one half into a sturdy glass using a citrus juicer or reamer. Cut a couple of thin wedges from the other half for garnish.
- Add mint leaves and granulated sugar to the glass. Gently muddle with a muddler or wooden spoon to release oils without shredding the leaves.
- Pour in 2 ounces (60 ml) of white rum. Fill the glass about halfway with crushed ice.
- Top off with 4 to 6 ounces (120-180 ml) of chilled soda water. Stir gently with a spoon or straw to mix flavors without bruising the mint further.
- Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint and a lime wheel on the rim. Serve immediately.
Notes
Use fresh mint and freshly squeezed lime juice for best flavor. Avoid over-muddling mint to prevent bitterness. Crushed ice chills the drink better and dilutes slowly. Simple syrup can be used instead of granulated sugar for easier muddling. Chill the glass beforehand for a colder drink. For a spicy twist, replace half the soda water with ginger beer.
