Copycat Starbucks Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso

  • Author: Natalia
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Description

A budget-friendly, fast, and customizable homemade version of the popular Starbucks drink using strong coffee, brown sugar, and oat milk.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee or cold brew concentrate
  • 1 teaspoon instant espresso powder
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 cup oat milk (barista style recommended)
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • Extra brown sugar for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brew strong coffee or prepare cold brew concentrate. Let it cool slightly if using hot coffee.
  2. While the coffee is still warm, add brown sugar and instant espresso powder to a cocktail shaker or mason jar. Stir to help dissolve the sugar.
  3. Fill the shaker or jar halfway with ice cubes.
  4. Pour in the sweetened coffee and add the oat milk.
  5. Secure the lid tightly and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds until the mixture is very cold and frothy.
  6. Strain the mixture into a mug over fresh ice.
  7. Garnish with a tiny sprinkle of extra brown sugar on top of the foam.
  8. Serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, use cold brew concentrate to avoid dilution. Ensure the coffee is warm when adding sugar to help it dissolve. Shake until the container feels freezing cold for maximum frothiness. You can prep the coffee base (coffee, sugar, espresso) in advance and store in the fridge for up to 3 days.
