Crispy Churro Waffles: Easy Pinterest Dessert Recipe

  • Author: Natalia
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

These crispy churro waffles combine the best of breakfast and dessert, featuring a cinnamon-vanilla infused batter that cooks up golden and crisp, then coated in cinnamon sugar and served with a rich dark chocolate dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 4 tablespoons melted unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (for coating)
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips (for sauce)
  • ½ cup heavy cream (for sauce)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (for sauce)
  • Pinch of salt (for sauce)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (for sauce, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your waffle iron and lightly grease it with cooking spray or oil.
  2. Mix the cinnamon and sugar in a shallow dish and set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, 3 tablespoons sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, melted butter, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix; the batter should be thick and slightly lumpy.
  6. Pour ½ to ¾ cup of batter onto the center of the preheated waffle iron.
  7. Close the lid and cook for 3-5 minutes until the steam stops rising and the waffles are deep golden brown and crispy.
  8. Immediately remove the hot waffle and roll it in the cinnamon sugar mixture, coating all sides.
  9. Place coated waffles on a wire rack to keep them crisp while you cook the remaining batter.
  10. To make the sauce, heat heavy cream and 1 tablespoon butter in a small saucepan over low-medium heat until it just starts to simmer.
  11. Remove from heat, add chocolate chips, and let sit for 2 minutes.
  12. Stir gently until the chocolate is melted and the sauce is smooth and glossy.
  13. Serve the warm churro waffles immediately with the dark chocolate dipping sauce on the side.

Notes

Do not stack hot waffles on a plate as the steam will make them soggy; use a wire rack instead. Ensure baking powder is fresh for proper rise. The chocolate sauce will thicken as it cools; add a splash of cream if reheating to loosen consistency.
