Homemade Vietnamese Iced Coffee

  • Author: Natalia
  • Total Time: 8-10 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Description

A simple and authentic Vietnamese iced coffee recipe featuring bold dark roast coffee, sweetened condensed milk, and ice for a refreshing and creamy drink perfect for hot days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 tablespoons (18g) coarsely ground dark roast coffee
  • 3 tablespoons (45ml) sweetened condensed milk
  • 6 ounces (180ml) boiling water
  • 1 cup (240ml) ice cubes
  • Optional: sweetened condensed coconut milk (for tropical twist)
  • Optional: evaporated milk (for lighter creaminess and less sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Boil fresh water in your kettle or pot. While the water heats, place 3 tablespoons of coarsely ground dark roast coffee into your Vietnamese phin filter or French press.
  2. If using a phin filter, add about 1 ounce of hot water to the coffee grounds to let them bloom for 30 seconds. Then fill the filter with the remaining 5 ounces of hot water and cover with the lid. Let the coffee drip slowly for 4-6 minutes. If using a French press, pour in hot water, stir gently, and let steep for 4 minutes before pressing.
  3. While the coffee brews, spoon 3 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk into your serving glass. Once coffee is ready, pour it over the condensed milk and stir thoroughly until creamy and smooth.
  4. Fill the glass with plenty of ice cubes. Stir again to chill the coffee and mix evenly.
  5. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

[‘Use fresh, coarsely ground coffee for best flavor and to avoid clogging the filter.’, ‘Do not rush the drip; slow brewing produces richer coffee.’, ‘Sweetened condensed milk is essential for authentic creaminess and sweetness.’, ‘Use big ice cubes to prevent quick dilution.’, ‘Adjust sweetness by varying the amount of condensed milk.’, ‘Try substituting half or all condensed milk with sweetened condensed coconut milk for a tropical twist.’, ‘If no phin filter, French press or strong instant coffee can be used as alternatives.’]
