Description

A refreshing, zero-alcohol mocktail made with mashed blackberries, fresh lime juice, and sparkling water, finished with aromatic basil. Ready in just five minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (150g) fresh or frozen blackberries
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) fresh lime juice
  • 12 tablespoons (15-30ml) honey or simple syrup
  • 1 cup (240ml) sparkling water or club soda
  • 46 fresh basil leaves
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional garnish: lime slice or extra blackberry

Instructions

  1. Place blackberries, lime juice, and sweetener in the bottom of a highball or Collins glass.
  2. Mash the berries with a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon until broken down and juicy, creating a dark purple mixture at the bottom.
  3. Fill the glass with ice cubes, about halfway to three-quarters full.
  4. Slowly pour the sparkling water over the ice to preserve carbonation.
  5. Take the basil leaves, place them in your palm, cover with the other hand, and clap firmly once to release the oils.
  6. Drop the basil leaves into the drink.
  7. Gently stir with a long spoon to mix.
  8. Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness if needed, then garnish and serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, use cold sparkling water and fresh basil. If using frozen berries, let them thaw slightly before mashing. The blackberry-lime syrup can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days; add sparkling water just before serving to keep it bubbly.
