Description
A comforting, low-effort slow cooker recipe for tender pulled pork sliders. Perfect for self-care days, this dish requires minimal prep and delivers maximum satisfaction with sweet, tangy flavors.
Ingredients
- 3–4 pounds pork shoulder (Boston butt)
- 1 large yellow onion, sliced into wedges
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 bottle (18-20 oz) BBQ sauce (sweet and smoky variety)
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 pack (12-16 rolls) Hawaiian sweet rolls
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- Optional toppings: pickles, coleslaw, or chipotle queso dip
Instructions
- Trim any hard fat from the pork shoulder and pat dry. Place the pork in the slow cooker.
- Scatter sliced onions and minced garlic over the pork.
- Pour the BBQ sauce, apple cider vinegar, and brown sugar over the meat. Sprinkle with black pepper.
- Cover and cook on Low for 6-8 hours until the pork is fork-tender.
- Remove pork from the slow cooker and shred using two forks or meat shredder forks. Discard onions if desired.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Place the sheet of Hawaiian rolls in a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Distribute the shredded pork evenly over the rolls. Pour any remaining juices from the slow cooker over the pork.
- Brush the tops of the rolls generously with melted butter.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until the tops are golden brown and the pork is hot and bubbly. Cover with foil if browning too quickly.
- Let cool for 5 minutes, then slice between the rolls to separate into individual sliders.
- Serve warm with optional toppings like pickles or coleslaw.
Notes
For best texture, cook on Low rather than High. Save the extra juices from the slow cooker to pour over the sliders before baking to keep them moist. Do not freeze assembled sliders as the buns will become soggy; freeze the shredded pork separately instead. If using pork loin instead of shoulder, reduce cooking time and add extra sauce to prevent dryness.
